Every software I purchased, they all usually have upgrades included for one year for free, then you need to pay the upgrade for new releases. The perpetual still has an optional upgrade cost if you want to receive upgrades/updates in the future but to be honest, I don't know one single software today that does not. It seems to me you purchased the subscription license instead of the perpetual one.
